ABOUT CAROL

Carol Lamport is a Mauritian singer. She was born on January 20, 1973. She began singing at the age of 16 in her school choir, of which she quickly became the soloist. She is a very eclectic singer and explores many singing styles throughout her career.

At the beginning of her career as a singer, she began to sing in small concerts at private events where she sang songs by the French singer Patricia Kass or the American singer Barbra Streisand to name a few. Her first theatrical experience dates back to 1993 when she played at the Plaza Theater in Mauritius. She was chosen to be part of the backing vocals for a lyrical operetta season in productions such as " The Merry Widow. »

In 1995, she auditioned for a Mauritian production of the Franco-Canadian musical "Starmania" and to her surprise, she was given the lead role of Marie Jeanne, the automaton waitress. It was a big turning point in her career, which made her known to the Mauritian public. At the same time, Carol was part of a large choir where she performed for two years a classical repertoire as well as Christmas carols. It was also at this time that she started to sing "Ave Maria" during religious ceremonies, which allowed her to explore her lyrical voice. She will continue this activity for many years.

In 1999, she returned to the stage to interpret this time the role of Eponine in " Les Misérables," translated into Mauritian Creole by Dev Virahsawmy and Gérard Sullivan, who was also the producer of the musical.

In 2000, she started as a entertainer and sang in hotels on the island, which allowed her to expand her repertoire in pop and jazz style.

In 2001, her love for the stage brought her back to the “Théâtre du Plaza” where she played the role of the narrator in a production of the musical "Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat " by Andrew Lyord Weber which is translated into Mauritian Creole " Zozef ek so palto larkansiel”. This was a very important period in her life since she met her husband in the cast, the Mauritian artist Pascal Lagesse. www.pascallagesse.com

In 2004, a new version of " Starmania " was produced at the citadel in Port-Louis and Carol was again selected for the role of Marie Jeanne as in 1995. After this show, Carol took a few years off the stage to take care of her family. Her father, then ill, died in 2005. In 2007 she gave birth to her son Noah Lagesse. She did not stop singing, but appeared in smaller concerts or for private events. She nevertheless continued to sing at weddings.

In 2011, she decided it was time to go solo and performed for her first one woman show. This first solo concert will also mark a turning point for Carol, as she will make her debut as a singer-songwriter and will present her first French song " Ma vie c’est ma vie ".

In 2012, she finally went back on stage to perform this time in " The Sound of Music " where she plays the role of the mother superior.

In 2015, she produced her first Christmas album. “ Carol Lamport chante Noël ”. The album contains new interpretations of traditional songs, some of which will be translated into Creole, such as " Oh Holy night " which becomes " La nwi sacre " or " We wish you a Merry Christmas " which will become " Mo swet zot enn zoye nwel". She also sings her own compositions " Petit papa Noël sous les tropiques " and a song in creole entitled " Nwel Nwel. »

In 2016, she once again played the role of mother superior, but this time it was for the musical "Sister Act" where she co-starred with Mauritian singer Linzy Bacbotte. After " Sister Act ", Carol Lamport focuses on her solo concerts and her ongoing career as a singing teacher since 2013. In 2017, to learn more about the voice, she also takes the time to perfect herself as a singing teacher and follows online courses for 4 years with her mentor, the singing teacher, Robert Sussuma. https://thesingingself.com
